Eastside junior and third year Media Arts student, Zoey Washington, is a winner in the 20th Annual C-Span Student Cam documentary film contest.
Washington’s documentary, Balancing the Scales: Race and the Criminal Justice System, earned a third place award for the central region of the United States. Her video was one of 3,200 entries from 42 states, Washington, D.C., Canada, the Mariana Islands, and India.
“In recognition of the 20th anniversary of C-SPAN’s StudentCam competition, this year we asked students to either look 20 years into the future or to reflect on a topic of importance to them and its past,” said Craig McAndrew, director of C-SPAN Education Relations. “Students have skillfully blended their perspectives with in-depth research and an array of expert interviews, and we are thrilled to share their accomplishments with their local communities, and the nation.”
Washington spent four months working on the documentary. She interviewed Fayette Commonwealth attorney, Kimberly Baird and Fayette Court of Appeals Judge Pamela Goodwine.
Washington’s win comes with a $750 prize
